Professional ev charging station installation in Ottawa by licensed electricians with 15 years’ experience in Ontario.
About this service
A Level 2 EV charger installation involves running a dedicated 240-volt circuit from your electrical panel to the charging location, mounting the unit, and testing the connection. Most installations complete in one day. The charger pulls 30 to 50 amps depending on the model you choose.
Homes in Westboro, Hintonburg, and Vanier built before 1970 often need panel upgrades before we can add the charger circuit. Newer homes in Kanata, Barrhaven, and Orleans typically have panel capacity to spare. We check your panel during the assessment and tell you what's needed before quoting the job.

Before you book
The questions most clients ask first. Answered directly.
What is a Level 2 EV charger and why do I need one?
A Level 2 charger runs on 240 volts and charges your EV three to five times faster than the 120-volt cord that comes with your car. Most EVs charge fully overnight with a Level 2 charger. The 120-volt option can take 20 hours or more for a full charge, which doesn't work if you drive the car daily.
Do I need a panel upgrade before installing an EV charger?
Many Ottawa homes built before 1990 have 100-amp panels that can't handle an EV charger plus existing electrical loads. We assess your panel during the site visit and let you know whether an upgrade is needed. Homes in newer subdivisions usually have 200-amp panels with room to spare.
Which EV charger brands do you install?
We install Tesla Wall Connectors, ChargePoint Home, JuiceBox, and Grizzl-E chargers. Most homeowners choose based on their vehicle make and whether they want smart features like scheduling or app control. We'll walk you through the options during the assessment.
How long does EV charger installation take?
Most installations complete in one day. If we're running the circuit through finished walls or from a panel in the basement to a garage on the opposite side of the house, it may take longer. We tell you the expected timeline before starting.
Can I install an EV charger in a condo or townhouse?
You'll need approval from your condo board or property management company before we can start. Some buildings have dedicated parking with individual electrical access. Others require running a new circuit from a shared panel, which the board must approve. We can assess the work and provide documentation for your approval request.
Can you install a charger if my panel is in the basement and my car parks outside?
Yes. We run the circuit from the panel to the exterior charging location. If the distance is long or the run involves multiple wall penetrations, the cost increases. We measure during the assessment and give you the price before proceeding.
Common questions
Specific questions about this service in Ottawa. Answered directly, without the runaround.
Installation cost depends on your panel capacity, the distance from the panel to the charger location, and whether we're running the circuit through finished walls or open framing. Homes in older Ottawa neighbourhoods like Westboro and Hintonburg sometimes need panel upgrades before we can add the charger circuit. Newer homes in Kanata and Barrhaven usually have panel capacity available. The charger unit itself costs between $700 and $900 depending on the brand and features you choose. If a panel upgrade is needed, that adds to the total job cost. We give you a written price after assessing the job, before any work starts.
The vast majority of electrical work does not require a permit. If one is needed for your installation, we handle all the paperwork and scheduling. You don't need to contact the ESA or track any deadlines. Our electricians work under master electrician licence #7018741, which authorises this type of installation in Ontario. Most Ottawa homeowners don't need to think about permits at all. It's part of how we manage every job from start to finish.
The Canada Greener Homes Grant covers part of the cost for eligible EV charger installations. Ontario does not currently offer a provincial rebate equivalent to Quebec's programs. If any rebates are available for your installation, we'll confirm eligibility and handle the paperwork. Rebate programs change frequently, so we verify what's active at the time of your installation rather than quoting outdated program details.
Level 2 chargers add 30 to 50 kilometres of range per hour depending on your vehicle and the charger's amperage. A 40-amp charger fully charges most EVs in six to eight hours from a typical daily depletion. For Ottawa commuters driving 30 to 40 kilometres daily, overnight charging replaces what you used that day. Most EV owners charge nightly from 20 or 30 percent back to 80 or 90 percent, which takes three to four hours. Hydro Ottawa offers time-of-use rates that make overnight charging cheaper than daytime charging.
That depends on your panel's capacity and how much of it you're already using. A 200-amp panel usually has room for an EV charger. A 100-amp panel may not, especially if you're running electric heating, air conditioning, and kitchen appliances. Homes in Nepean and Gloucester built in the 1970s and 1980s often have 100-amp panels that need upgrading. We calculate your total load during the assessment and tell you whether your panel can handle the charger or needs upgrading first.
Most home chargers run on 30, 40, or 50 amps. A 40-amp circuit handles most EVs well and charges overnight without issue. Some larger vehicles or plug-in hybrids work fine on 30 amps. A 50-amp circuit charges slightly faster but pulls more from your panel. We recommend the amperage based on your vehicle, your panel capacity, and how quickly you need the car charged each night.
Yes. We fish the wire through finished walls where possible or run it in surface conduit if the layout requires it. Homes in older Ottawa neighbourhoods sometimes have plaster walls behind the drywall, which changes the approach. We assess the wall construction during the site visit and tell you the best route for the circuit. The installation takes longer with finished walls than with open framing, but it's done regularly.
Yes. Commercial installations often involve multiple charging stations, higher amperage circuits, and coordination with Hydro Ottawa for service upgrades. We've installed chargers for offices, apartment buildings, and retail locations across Ottawa. Call us to discuss your project and we'll arrange an assessment.
What clients say
We had three quotes for the charger install. AAA's was the most detailed. They explained exactly what needed to happen with the panel and why. The job took one day and everything works perfectly. Barrhaven, December 2024.
I wasn't sure if my old panel could handle the charger. They checked everything, explained the situation clearly, and gave me options. Ended up doing the panel upgrade and charger install together. Clean work, no surprises on the invoice.
Install went smoothly from start to finish. They showed up on time, finished in one day, and cleaned up before they left. Charger has been working great for three months now. Would recommend.
